I get where Moniquill is coming from but you absolutely can’t compare attention to a food product because attention comes from someone. You can’t manipulate a Twinkie into letting it eat you but you sure as hell can manipulate a person into paying attention to you. And when you do? It’s fucked up, it’s wrong, and it’s nothing like feeding yourself or sleeping. 

Other people’s emotions aren’t commodities that you can be entitled to the same way you can be entitled to having enough food to eat. When you eat Twinkies, the only person who might be hurt is yourself; when you do manipulative things (of which making self-deprecating comments really isn’t one, obviously) in order to get someone’s attention, you are putting other people’s psychological health on the line. And commentary that obfuscates this is wildly irresponsible at best. 

#tumblr SJ is the worst about this #before you say something you should really think about whether or not it can be used to justify abuse #this commentary would have been a lot better with even a short caveat but nooooo

Yeah…..if your metaphor for other people’s emotions is “twinkies” or “shelter” or “inanimate objects with no needs of their own that I can use to meet my needs”  and you don’t stop to think about how that metaphor is kind of problematic and could use some caveats,  the I think that should be pathologized.

i dont even care if you do it to get brownie points. its just hilarious that you all have internalized identity as a sacrosanct appeal to authority, without even considering that there is much internal debate about these issues. it also shows that you dont necessarily grasp the internal logic behind these debates and if you dont get it on a fundamental level, just stop talking.

so if you are a white person who tells a person of color they are a white identifier, you need to stop because most of the people of color who use that term flippantly on tumblr have used it to call other pocs racist simply when they disagree with something.

and ironically, it’s disrespectful as hell when ~allies~ don’t acknowledge the fact that there may be multiple nuanced positions on an issue within a marginalized group. like, hey, douchebag, maybe these communities are more complicated than you thought and maybe you should quit homogenizing them.
